Hiding a component while another is open for editing

I’m taking an online course from fine woodworking on sketchup for furniture design. I can’t duplicate one thing the instructor does:

open a component for editing. leave a reference component in view for reference. next hide the reference component without closing the editing component. I can’t make that work.

I can unhide last if i am in edit and want to see that reference component but i can’t make it disappear again without leaving edit, selecting the piece to hide, then hiding, then reopening component to edit.

Thanks for your help!

You need to make a keyboard shortcut for Hide Rest of Model. This was shown earlier in the course. Then you can hide the rest of the model with the keyboard shortcut while a component is open for editing.

Look in Preferences>Shortcuts. (Might still be called Settings on Mac.) Filter for ‘Hide’ and you’ll see the command.

This is on my PC but it’s similar on Mac.

Here’s using the keyboard shortcut while a component is open for editing.
hide

Thank you!

Glad you got this sorted. This shortcut really makes things easier.

FWIW, I also set up a keyboard shortcut for Hide Similar Components.
