Hi,
I am trying to create a model, it is fairly simple, but I’m not sure where to start I have tried following tutorials but they don’t seem to do what I want to do.
Here is a sketch of the structure that I want to make:
If it’s really simple can someone provide me with a template of some sort?
You don’t need to look at the measurements, only the photo
What does a template have to do with how to model the boat? Do you know what a template is in SU?
The simple fact is, a shape like a boat hull–a compound curved surface–is simply too advanced for a first project. You need to build up some experience working with simpler shapes first–spend some time just making basic objects that will give you a chance to become familiar with the various tools. Go through as many tutorial videos as you can stand to watch. This is more or less how I proceeded to learn the program, and when I got around to making my first boat hull, I didn’t have to ask anyone how to do it–I already knew, or at least had a pretty good idea of what I had to do. And for a fact, templates played no part.
What you really need is a series of cross-sections through the hull.
Often you can learn a lot by investigating how others have modeled similar objects.
These may be of interest, the first of which is Gully’s elegant vessel:
If you do what I said, line up a series of cross-sections, it will end up looking like your drawing. Do you know what a cross-section is? If you don’t know enough about what a 2D section through your boat looks like, there’s no way you’re going to be able to define it in 3D.
What is it about “you’re not ready to model a compound curve to specification” that you don’t understand? No amount of explaining at this point is going to get you there. You have to work your way up to it, starting with very simple stuff.
I know what a cross section is, I know how to draw to an extent but it’s too complex and this is in within 2 days, so far behind Is there any 3D designers on here for rent or something?
