Help pls! 4 different sloped angles difficulties

Hello, I am creating a component that is a barrel diffuser. The diffuser has 4 sloped sides. I have been trying everything I know to get these slopes to look correct. I’ve used the move tool on different edges and experimented with Solid Tools as well. No luck :frowning: I included pictures of what I’m going for and the .skp file. In the .skp file, the center line on the z axis is the depth it needs to be. If anyone has any ideas on how to achieve this or can help out, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks!!

so something like this:
image

  1. create the cube
  2. add the arc on one of the sides
  3. select the top lines
  4. use the follow me tool to extrude the arc
    done.

I experimented with this a bit, but it hasn’t solved my problem yet. The angles are different. I included the actual photo of what this needs to look like. Any advice? Thanks

Like this?

I the model with the ends of the barrel portion vertical. Then I used a “cutter” and Subtract from Eneroth Solid Tools to cut the ends at the angle.

I used Eneroth Solid Tools instead of the native Solid Tools because I wanted the resulting object to remain as a component.

Loft your radius then cut to a plane or solid

Attached is yet another graphical solution.

But I came up with two slightly different models … depending on how one interprets the dimensions on the face on the left end of the barrel diffuser.

If the elliptical edge is supposed to be 4’ (48") in length … then I got one solution (Diffuser A).

But if the height of the face (on the angle) is supposed to be 5 1/2" … then I got a slightly different solution (Diffuser B).

Regardless … both were derived using nothing but native SketchUp tools.

Extrude the circular section with the 5" height … then find (by successive approximation) the elliptical curve that has the correct total length (A) … or correct height (B). Then draw a plane at the appropriate angle … and intersect it with the original circular section.

But since the intersection of a plane with a cylinder is an ellipse, a more precise, deterministic method would have been start with the diameter of the cylinder and the length of the elliptical edge … and then to have mathematically calculated the angle of the intersecting plane … and then to have drawn the intersecting plane at that angle in SketchUp … etc. But that seemed a bit of overkill for a model that is dimensioned only to the nearest 1/16" … and this is a SketchUp forum … not a math class.
