Heavy layout file not able to export to pdf, neeed helpp!

I’m currently facing an issue with a very large Layout file (around 105 pages). The file has become extremely heavy, and now whenever I open it, it keeps loading continuously. I’m unable to navigate between pages or even delete any pages to reduce the size.

At this point, I’m stuck and can’t export the file or make any edits. Ideally, I need to split this file into 3–4 smaller files, but I can’t access it properly to do that.

Has anyone experienced something similar or found a workaround for this?
If anyone with a higher-spec system or any solution can help recover or split the file, I would really appreciate it.

I’ve already completed the project, so redoing everything would be very difficult.

Try updating to 2026 and see if it improves.

How big is your SKP file? I would start there. Purge, clean up large textures, inspect objects with lots of geometry and see if you can find alternates or build your own.

Then try again, and if it doesn’t work you’ll most likely need to upload the LO file to a file sharing service and post a link here to someone could help.

And kindly update your forum profile so we can actually see what system you are working with… otherwise how are we to know if what we have is better…

Or try downgrading to SKP 2023. I often use 2023 as the 2025 and 2026 often crashes!

And 105 Pages…I would recommend to split your layout file in smaller chapters and export seperately.

According to their forum profile they are using 2023…

Apologies for not updated forum. i use LO2026 and here is my system specs:
Intel(R) Core™ i9-14900F (2.00 GHz), RAM32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 (12 GB)

It was all good when i was working , but crashes when i tried to export
my bad for making the doc in one file, now i am not able to split the file as it doesnt allow me to swith to pages, its just stuck on cover page

So your Hardware would not be the problem.

Same procedures as everytime with large files:

  • purge all associated skp files (components, tags, materials ecc.) (also cleanup³ can be helpful)
  • resize textures of materials if heavy use of textures (Plugin material resizer can be helpful)
  • in layout delete unused references
  • in layout use raster rather then vector rendering…

May be ther is a workaround to rename the .layout file to a .zip and extract it to a folder.

Than you can edit/ eliminate text and references…just an idea, never tried it…

Share the LO and SKP file.
You will likely have to use a file sharing service. Make sure to share it with a public links.

If there is client information you can message me direct with the links and I can try and take a look.
