Graphics Activation Error

Hello everyone,

I’m having an issue with opening shared SketchUp models.

Out of the following three shared links, only one model opens correctly, while the other two fail to load:

https://app.sketchup.com/share/tc/europe/c-qN7gB2PsU?source=web&stoken=h-OqubtWKYxV13V_5LSxkflFgdSZ-1pHZaG43bL45AO1GfRpzyAV7W3HkWgFs1Ob

When the model does not open, I get the following error message:

Graphics Activation Error

Something went wrong when activating the new graphics engine. You can troubleshoot via the Help Center or use the classic graphics engine to continue modeling without advanced visualization features.

Buttons: Use Classic | Retry

It does not matter whether I click “Use Classic” or “Retry” – I get the same error message every time, and the model never loads.

What I’ve already tried:

  • Cleared browser cache and cookies

  • Tested on Windows 10, Windows 11, and Android

  • Tried opening the links from different devices and browsers

The result is always the same on all platforms.

If anyone has encountered this issue or has an idea what could cause it, I’d really appreciate your help.

Thank you in advance!

And you’re using still SketchUp 2021? Have you updated the graphics drivers?

All three of your links open fine in the online viewer for me.

Thank you very much for your feedback.

I’m using SketchUp 2025. However, the model below was created in SketchUp for Web.

To be honest, I was surprised to read that you were able to open all three links. I didn’t initially suspect a driver issue, since the same error occurred on three different devices with three different operating systems. Also, the problem does not affect every model — some shared models open without any issue, while others do not.

I will update the drivers on all devices and report back.

Thank you again for your help.

Please update your forum profile.

I guess it’s possible that the drivers on all three devices need updating or that in some cases the graphics cards just aren’t supported.

This would lead me to think there’ss something, an image, a texture, maybe that is used in some but not all models that might be wreaking havoc with your graphics card.

Thank you so much for reaching out about this, we have found the issue and are working on a fix. I will update you when it is out. In the meantime, please try other browsers (Edge, Chrome) and update graphics drivers and the browsers themselves.

@zachary_smeton Are you on the TC team?

Sure am!
I haven’t quite figured out how to get the fancy title added on the forums, but I will get this issue resolved.

Your team title is now showing. Welcome to the jungle.

Please try again and let me know if you are still running into issues. It should now correctly kick you into classic for those models if your system fails to use the new graphics engine.

Thank you again for raising the issue!

Thank you very much for the quick response and for looking into this so thoroughly.

I really appreciate how fast you identified the issue and started working on a fix — that level of support is impressive.

After switching to the Classic graphics engine, everything is now working correctly on all three devices and operating systems I tested.

Thanks again for the excellent support — it’s truly appreciated.
