I suppose we can consider the (second) question answered as I’ve solved. I ended up watching a guide video on the intersect option (43-Sketchup Intersect - YouTube props) and applied to my structure.
It went without issue, although the biggest hassle was the cleaning up process afterwards. Lots of surfaces and lines to erase

When you are creating things like that keep in mind that they are symmetrical so you can work with just one section of the whole.
