Funky changes during import

Hello, I am VERY new to the sketchup community. I am taking a beginners course. I am having several issues but this one is seriously hindering my work. For an assignment, I need to import my renderings from Sketchup to Layout. I’m including the two images below. The large image is how it appears on Sketchup and the smaller thumbnail is how it appears on layout. This is a section cut issue. I had no problem importing the floorplan. Those shapes appear to be fulstrom volume from the scenes I set up. How to i import my work without it getting funky like this?

Share your LO file in a reply otherwise we are guessing.

Is the model a long way from the origin?

Do you have the proper scenes setup for LO in SKP?

Are you using a section cut for this?

One common case for funky weirdness is if you have drawn your model a long way from the original axis - if you moved the axis then this is quite easy to do.
Even more so if you imported a DWG and modelled on top of that

I cant share the file itself, it says its too big to upload.

does this image help?

yes it is a section cut

Upload it to a file sharing service like DropBox and share the link.

It would help more if you select the viewport while the SketchUp Model panel is open but seeing the actual LayOut file is the real way for us to help you.

Please also correct your forum profile. You clearly aren’t using SketchUp Free on Chrome as your profile says.

The model is at the axis point. I don’t know if LO is set up correctly.

thank you so much

let me know if this works. Open to any advice!

I’m opening your file now.

The problem is you have these camera frustums that are displayed which some of them cut by the section plane.

Give those all the Cameras tag (some are untagged), turn off the tag in the tags panel, and update the scenes in the SketchUp model. I would also turn off the Section Plane display in the style and update the style.

After doing that and updating the LO reference, the viewport looks like this.

Also you should fix incorrect tagusage. ALL edges and faces should be created AND REMAIN untagged.

You should keep the file purged of unused stuff.

And use reasonable material sizes. There’s no reason the texture for the ficus stems needs to be 5000 pixels wide.

Cleaning up the SketchUp model reduced the file size by 65%. More could be done, too.

That worked! thank you so much. I am going to spend time cleaning up my tags and updating my scenes.
