Font choice

When I go to choose a font, I am confronted with a bewildering choice of hundreds of fonts, most of which I have not downloaded and many of which are in foreign languages I have no use for.

In Mac’s Font Book, you can create collections, which would be a way of winnowing out everything you don’t want. But is there a way to invoke that in SU? Without it, you just have to remember the names of fonts you like.

Probably most of those fonts were shipped with the OS or came with other applications. SketchUp and LayOut don’t come install any fonts at all. You could remove those fonts you wouldn’t ever use.

That did occur to me but when you go into Font Book a lot of the fonts are greyed out. When you right click on them, there is no option to delete.

TBH I am not sure what software makes use of Collections. Maybe only Apple designed ones.

That seems odd. I wonder why that is. Maybe @slbaumgartner would have some insight. I bet it’s been a decade since I lit up my MacBook Pro.

It might only be Font Book.

Some fonts are listed but are “optional” (a silly notion imo). You may need to open the font book and enable or download them.

That’s weird.

@simoncbevans do those fonts that are grayed out in Font Book appear in the list in SketchUp or LayOut?
