Hey everyone!

I’m having some trouble with Flowify and hoping someone can help me out. I’ve set up my groups as follows:

A – The curve

B – The length of the curve

C – The pathway

D – The group I want to flow

But when I select everything and try to apply Flowify, it doesn’t actually “flow”—instead, it just resizes to a much bigger scale. Any idea what might be going wrong?

Thanks in advance! Appreciate any help!

You are most likely experiencing problems due to the highly detailed model and small edge size.

- I enlarged the model by 10x;
- I reworked the railing model, making the curves with fewer segments. I divided the created faces, creating quads, instead of a single face;
- I redid the railing surface, reducing it to 48 faces instead of the 376 faces of the one you created;
- You need to clean up the generated model. You probably need to improve the geometry of the railing model.

I agree with what @mihai.s said. I made similar arrangements. However, I was able to do it with 2d railing instead of 3d railing. Maybe my computer’s capacity is not enough.

Hey there, @mihai.s!

Sorry for the late response—my SketchUp forum account wasn’t logged in on my home computer. Anyway, I really appreciate your help and suggestions! I still managed to get it done (first image), but I had to manually adjust and clean up unwanted geometry and lines after using Flowify without the cut, as that was the only way I found to make it follow the curve of the handrail. I also simplified some of the original ornament design to reduce the number of faces and geometry.

Man, if I had seen your advice before going through all that, my work would have been much easier! Haha. But I truly appreciate it nonetheless.

I do have a few questions and comments based on your bulleted suggestions:

- How did you scale the model up by 10x?
- When you mentioned reworking the railing model, did you mean there’s an easier way to redo the railing surface? Do you have to do it manually, or is there a plugin that can help with the process?
- Regarding the 376 faces—I increased the count because in a previous project, I was told the render didn’t look smooth, and the edges were too visible (see the second image). That’s why I reworked the curve and adjusted it from 36 to 376 to achieve a smoother appearance. But it looks like 48 faces also work well to improve the smoothness.

Thanks again for your insights! I really appreciate the time you took to help.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That makes a lot of sense—using a 2D railing instead of a 3D one is a smart workaround, especially if computer performance is a concern. I really appreciate the insight! Thanks again for the input @ecati 😊

You’re welcome!

- Scale tool \> 10x
- there are a few extensions - Fredo Curvizard, Fredo Spline, etc…
- try to find/use the minimum necessary by finding the balance between the two requirements (creating the model and rendering it). And add geometry in areas where it’s necessary, and in other areas keep it to a minimum.

Hey! Sorry to bother you again, but I have another topic on the SketchUp forum where I might need some advice. I was wondering if this is something you’re familiar with? If you have the time, I’d really appreciate any tips! 😊
