It doesn’t matter how much “better” the new mirror/flip function is. The right-mouse-click function should not be removed form the menu. If Dev left the old flip method in tack (via shortcut keys), along with the -1 method as mentioned by another commenter, why not leave the right-mouse-click option as well? What harm would it do?
If the new method is so much better, why even leave the old functions (via keyboard shortcuts and -1 method) in place at all?
The more I look into this matter, the more it seems that removing the right-mouse-click menu option was a mistake and a poorly executed decisions on the developer’s part. Instead of acknowledging this and restore this function, they/and people, will defend the mistake by selling me the idea of how much better the new feature is.
It was a tool that I use approx. 300 times a day and now it is taken away. This is a huge setback for my work flow and efficiency.
SMH = Shake My Head (in disapproval; in shock; what a shame; sadness; what a loss; frustration; etc)
The tool was never removed, just the right-click menu item..
Not one developer has been here to “defend their mistake”. You’re making things up now, like Trump..
Yes, sometimes things get replaced by an updated tool. Or something gets removed. We all have to live with that, not just you. You can still use flip along if you make a keyboard shortcut for it. If that doesn’t cut it for you, you’ll have to go back to SketchUp 2018..
Actually I like to think that I played a small part in the retention of the Flip Along… commands when they were introducing the new Flip tool.
But I never cared much for the right-click context menu because of mouse clicking – my use case at the time was keyboard shortcuts for Flip Along… – why?
I never used it.
Does that make my workflow correct?
I rarely use groups. Should I demand they remove them because they take up a menu line item and they are not useful to me? Same with the Outliner. If I open the Outliner then I know I fucked up. I will start a new thread and demand that because I don’t use it the outliner is useless and a mistake.
Software by its very definition and nature changes and adapts. You though haven’t. And when you went from 2018 to 2026 it seems to have overloaded your processors. That is quite a leap in software iterations - but SketchUp thankfully still works the same as it always has, often improving or being tweaked around the edges, often to the frustration of power users who want more drastic change. Some of the software I use would be unrecognizable over that time frame…
Flip along hasn’t been taken away, and I said that my method was much worst than the new one, even if I wouldn’t like it I’d try to learn how to use it since it’s a lot more efficient than my archaic method. Im always open to learn new things, otherwise I’d be still using Autocad.
Mihai was apparently checking this thread and created a plugin to have flip along on the contextual menu. Ask him if he wants to share it with you. Hobby mihai.s - #493 by mihai.s
Use any methods that works for you. I have no interest or oversight in your workflow. For me, the right-mouse-click option to flip an object was the best method and it worked fined. I stand firm that there are no good reasons to remove it since Dev kept the other 2 methods (keyboard shortcut keys & the -1 option) which produces the same results except IMO, the right-mouse-click option is slightly more convenient.
This thread is for those who have been negatively impacted by the removal of this feature and maybe, just maybe, by talking about it we can get the Devs to restore it.
The core of Sketchup hasn’t changed much since 2018. My PC is well optimized and runs smoothly for both version so I made the right choice to not upgrade to the latest version every year. As mentioned in a previous post, the 2018 version was sufficient for me to accomplish my design projects. It’s just I couldn’t update the plugins or use models/components created with newer sketchup versions so I decided to upgrade.
When software changes impact customers in a negative way (as in my case), they (and I) will let the developers know. This is the process and maybe could even help them to become more considerate the next time they plan to remove modeling tools/features.
For clarity, the flip along and axis method has not been removed but the ability to do so using the right-mouse-click option to open the menu and activate that command from the menu has been removed. My work flow and efficiency has been greatly disturbed because of this. This is a key point of this thread as noted in my original post and throughout this post.
Not sure why people still says this feature is still there when it’s not in the 2026 sketchup version.
Why don’t you try this in the 2026 version and let us know if it’s still there. If it’s not, you’re delusional.
A member of the sketchup team did replied in this thread in support of the new flip tool. Maybe there are others members engaging in this thread without titles ex. “member of sketchup team” (or similar). Just a possibility.
For what it’s worth, thanks for lobbying to keep the Flip Along method. It was very useful for me since 2018 until now. Unfortunate the ability to execute this function from the right-mouse-click menu option is not available in the 2026 version. The 2 remaining methods still works: Keyboard shortcut keys and the -1 method but both are slightly less convenient for my normal approach.
What is the likelihood of getting the Developers to restore this function in the right-mouse-click menu?
Did you saw what @mihai.s did based on this thread? he created a plugin to be able to use flip along from the contextual menu on skp 2026, that means from the right click menu like you are used to in skp 2018. You can contact him and ask him if he wants to share it with you, or tell you how did he do it using AI Hobby mihai.s - #493 by mihai.s
