File Splitting

I have a 135MB file that is too big for Sketchup. Is there a way to open the file in some other software, spit it, then open each with Sketchup?

The file types are skp and dxf.

Had trouble with Fusion.

Thanks.

PS in 1 case, it says you cannot insert a component or model into itself.

Open the file, delete everything but what you want to keep in the file, purge unused components and materials and then use Save as to save it as a new file. Open the big one again and delete what you saved in the smaller file, purge unused components and materials again, and use either Save or Save as.

I can’t open the file. It’s too big for Sketchup.

Share the .skp file.

It’s probably possible to open it on sketchup for desktop, I’ve opened 1gb files.

It’s from CADMapper. I can’t download anything more than 1km x 1km for free. Not sure if u can use that to figure this out, but will include.

cadmapper-montreal-quebec-ca.skp (9.5 MB)

I don’t understand exactly. What is it you need from this model. How are you using it as a hobbyist? Maybe you don’t need everything that is in the file. Surely you can open this file. It’s only 9.5 Mb.

As I said, I don’t have the huge file yet. I have to pay for it. I don’t want to pay for it until I know I can open it. It is a map of chicago.

You can surely open a nine and a half meg file in the free version of SketchUp. It opens in SketchUp for Web for me with no problem.

Not sure what u mean. I will have a 135 MB file once I buy it. Ony SketchUp has a limit of 100 MB. So,can I open it in another software tro decrease the size, then be able to use Sketchup for the several smaller frames.

I tried Fusioin but it didn’t work when I tried to open it in SketchUp.

Hope that makes sense.

The file you shared is only 9.5 Mb. It opens fine in SketchUp for Web.

There’s nothing in the file you shared to reduce unless you delete some of the objects.

Again, how are you using the model in your hobby application? Maybe you don’t need all of the buildings.

Not sure on the cinfusion here. How do I open a 135 MB file in Sketcup? The llimit is 100 MB.. How do I open it in SU? I have to reduce the size, but in what software do I do that? Too big apparently for SU online.

Also, if the file is convertd to STL, (part of reducing itelsewhere) and then back to SKP, Does the tags function still work?

Hope tis finally makes sense.

Thanks/

Sounds to me as if you need to be using SketchUp for Desktop not SketchUp Free.

The model you shared is 9.5 MB, so I duplicated its contents several times and created a 133 MB file. I imported it into SketchUp for Web without having to split it into multiple pieces.

You can also test yourself by downloading a ~130 MB file from 3D Warehouse and see if you have problems importing it into SketchUp for Web.
