Strange, I had downloaded your file a few days ago, but now can’t find my attempted fix for the file. I’m guessing that I must have got busy with other things!
But, it’s good news in the end. As best I can tell everything is recovered.
If you turn off Edge Style, Profiles, you’ll find the model is many times more smooth to work on.

Hi Colin. I’m having the same problem. I designed twice my project. Saved again yesterday night and today in the morning it again did not open. Filed not found and invalid! If I look in the info the file is there with 47 MB but it does not open!!! I was working and saving it in my desk top. I Have the Pro in my windows computer but was using now the free Make in my laptop because my husband was using teh windows. I’m so frustrated!

This file has 27 MB of components recovered, but nothing recovered in the scene.
Thank you Colin, but the file is empty. I already redesigned every thing in my payed program on my Windows computer. There is working fine. I erased from my mac laptop my old SketchUp Make 2017 program not payed, and I’m trying to download a new SketchUp Pro program were I could share my license. No way to make it work! It always is coming with a message of error. I’m really disappointed. Even trying to download a simple make program is not working. No idea what is going on…Sad!
The scene is empty, but Components will have a lot of what was in the scene. If you happened to use components to group areas of the model together, it would be quicker to reconstruct things.
You have a 2020 license, was there a reason you needed to use an earlier version?
Because It was the way that I found for not having to pay for two licenses, and being able to switch computers to work.
Some times my husband uses my windows computer witch is in our home office when he comes home. He likes to read his personals things in this computer because it has has a bigger screen, and I go to use my laptop. Also some times when I’m traveling is better using my laptop. Or even, when I want to show something to a client, it is easier having a Sketch Up in my laptop that I can carry it everywhere. So it is extremely important having the program running in mine two work areas. I tried to download the 2020 Pro in my lap top yesterday twice, planing to switch licenses, and it did not work. After the program is downloaded, when I tried to install it, a message of error code -36 shows up and others. No idea what is going on…It was working well for me with the old Make for 3 years and now, this mess…any idea what it could be?

So stupid me deleted all my sketchup files but recovered one file via some recoverying program. Hopefully its the right file… When trying to open it it says “unexpected file format”. Ive tried changing name, importing it. Nothing works 
Hopefully it can be recovered.

I was able to recover the file. Note that it is a demanding model, mainly because of the trees. Those take more edges that the rest of the model combined. Would be worth using simpler trees.

As with other cases, I could only recover materials and components. Don’t expect to see anything in the scene itself.
I have also experienced the same problem, I thought my father in law how to use SketchUp and he has been working on his project for over a month now, but now I get the message of file not found or invalid.
I think it would be pretty sad to get all of the hard work lost, ist there a possibility to get it back ?
Can you upload the model somewhere and reply with a link to it?
I have 2 files of the same project, they both don’t open but it would be great if at least one of them works.

I am getting the file, but the download is happening very slowly.
I recovered a lot of components and materials, but nothing in the scene itself. You may be able to reconstruct some of what you had by looking in the Components panel.

Do you use Time Machine at all? If you did, you could go back in time looking for the last time the file was working ok.
Hi Colin! The same “File not found or invalid” is happening to me. I only have a backup from 3 hours before, and an important bit was done in that time. Can you try to recover the file. I need mostly the architecture (walls, columns, windows). Its a garage with a lot of 3Dwarehouse cars (which probably created the problem), but not need for those objects.
