File > New NEVER gives a new file

When I try to start a brand new model, I click on File > New. Instead of getting a brand new screen, I always get this Hexagon E with Teddy.

What I have been doing then is going into Outliner and Tags & then removing any reference to Teddy or Hexagon E.

This solution is not enough. For instance, in the model on which I’m working now, windows from another old model may suddenly appear on my walls or my Line tool may stop working.

What is the proper way to get my File > New to start working correctly again?

At some point in history you’ve probably overwritten your default template.

If you go to file - “new from template” it will show you all available options

You can choose a standard template and make that your default, or alternatively create your own.
