I am a facade designer and have been using SketchUp for years. However i am now exploring the idea of using it as the main software for model creation and then to export reports of the components for procurement and manufacture of panels and sub-grid. Has anyone else used SketchUp for a similar occupation or demand?
Yes, I often export timber and framing materials lists from my structural models.

You certainly can! There are some wonderful tools in SketchUp, like the Generate Report feature and some wonderful plug-ins. We in our studio use the 5D+ Auto Info tool as it also allows you to see isometrics of each component.
You can export in Excel, PDF, or even draw the report in SketchUp if you want to see it in SketchUp layout.
We use the report tool for exhibition stands and retail design drawings. I’m sure that for your facade drawings, depending on the complexity of your groups and your components, you can achieve a great result.
Thank you for your response, that is very helpful and I will be trying 5D+. Do you have experience using profilebuilder 4? What is the link with that and exporting reports?
We internally only use Profile Builder 3. What I like about it is that when you build your own assembly, you can build your assembly using sub-components. If you consider each sub-component as a part then that could work very well for your procurement and manufacturing reports.
Just to clarify 5D+ is the paid for tool and Auto Info is the free extension by this developer.
