Does anyone know of an extension that will assign exsting geometry to its closet axis?
Say you have the walls of a house model and you find that the majority of your wall surfaces are off axis. They are also off axis differently, so changing the axis in the model to match the model is not an option.
Interesting idea although I’ve never seen an extension to do what you want. I can imagine it could make a bigger mess in the process depending on what fix the geometry requires. How would an extension determine which end of an edge needs to be moved to get the alignment?
If I were given a model that had the problem you describe and was required to fix it I would most likely delete all of the wall geometry above the floor level and fix the plan (bottom of the walls) before extruding them to height again. Even fixing that could be a challenge but it would be easier than fixing the 3D Walss.
This particualr model was pulled up from a DWG import. That DWG import had a bunch of lines that were not quite parallel. Pulling things up, then draw a bunch more on axis and in the end you have this mess of a model. If there was an extension like this, it would likely be easy to adjust wall thickness than to find and fix all of the slightly off geometry.
Never use the DWG or DXF for modeling. Bring it in. Assign it to a Tag. Lock it. Model with it as a reference.
Until you work with someone and can trust their raw data assume that every CAD file you get will fuck you up, stab you in the back, and make your life miserable.
