extension_info.txt file and sub-folders

I notice there is a file named extension_info.txt in extensions installed from the EW. I assume it is auto-generated?

Does the file always go in the top-level folder of an extension?

What if I wanted to use a top-level folder to keep all of my extensions together? For example, I want to keep all my extensions in a jf_extensions folder instead of having a bunch of jf_extA, jf_extB files and folders. Is this possible?

It’s hard coded into the sub-folder of the RBZ file where the folder name must match the name of the root RB. We currently have not the possibility to customize the location of this or account for different filename namespacing.
