Entity "bleed" through

This question may have come up earlier but I could find no reference to it… so here goes. This is an issue I’ve dealt with since first using Sketchup back in 2014 and I thought I’d see if it annoys anyone else.

Depending on zoom scale, entities “behind” other entities, even as far away as 1/2" behind, “bleed” through the entity in front of them. Attached is an example - sketch of a steel wide flange column with 1/2" flanges but the “web” (cross-member piece hold the flanges together) bleeds
through in a perspective view.

Sometimes it can be worked around by “hiding” or turning off the tag of the entity behind, but when the entity “bleeding” through is part of the entity in front, that work around becomes more difficult.

Any other tricks for hiding the “bleed throughs” of entities just under the surface of another entity? Are there any plans for developers to address this issue? Or Is it just an unfixable flaw that we have to deal with due to the limits of PC graphics hardware?

Yes, it annoys most everyone.

It occurred when using OpenGL graphics libraries.

I haven’t yet tested for it with the new graphics engine which directly uses DirectX on MS Windows and Metal on Mac.

Do not know. The SketchUp team usually does not publicly announce “future plans”, unless there is a public beta “Labs” project.

I am not sure if there is a way to detect bleed through and suppress it in the display.
And also, do not know if this is a flaw in graphics libraries or GPU drivers.

Asking MS Copilot is really not much help:

I saw this first when I created my earliest 3D models in AutoCad in the late 1980s. I understand that it can be made to appear only with very, very small distances if you make the hidden lines algorithm more accurate, but with a big increase in processing time, not likely to happen soon with a realtime display engine. Currently the only solution is to hide those edges.
