Hence distinct skid marks,

There’s been a bit too much slack in the cables. For simplicity, they don’t take any load. But I want them to be straighter and form more of a triangular silhouette, not look like my potted plants when I’ve watered them too much or too little (I never know which one).

I think I’m making some real progress here! The upper connector was designed and 3d printed to give angular support but it turned out it didn’t really do that unless the bend at the end of the cable is adjusted slightly. I’m also adding tight holes with a snug fit around the cable at the lower end to get the angle right there. Previously they’ve just laid loose on top of the plywood.

If it’s stupid and it works it ain’t stupid. Using a slightly unconventional jig (?) of a book and a custom number of pages from a notebook to drill tiny holes through the center of these guys

Controlling the angle at the anchor points does wonders to reduce the slack.

The cable stays now also form a nice continuation of the lines in the truss.

Looking so much better with the cables installed!

Those weights are very suitable with the model :ok_hand:

In my new apartment I have them stationed at my dining table. Of course with 1435 mm in between

And so much better now with a center barrier and the roadway actually being blocked off from side to side :smiling_face_with_horns::face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Well played!

this is a 2020 meme. the kind of stuff we’ll see in 10 years, and kids will say “I don’t get it, this is no skibidi”, but the ones that were stuck in their flats in the spring of 2020 will chuckle .

It has rizz

I watched a documentary where they deliberately set that up to happen. Cars and trucks were all driven by remote control, and all the car drivers weren’t given a clue that there was going to be a jackknifed truck happening in front of them. A very interesting and complicated experiment.

Malmö - Hamburg train

Fantastic work! Is the water feature coming soon?

you know, I was wondering earlier today why you made a car bridge, not a train one.

forgot is was hiding below.

For this model I’m actually planning to skip the water. It just rises up from my sideboard. It makes the model more of an interior object blended into the room than having a base around it.

I have some ideas of water line ship models and wind turbines around it to make the composition more interesting though

it’s a conversation piece.
people entering your home will certainly say “what the what is that?”

Are you already considering taking apart the bookshelves and re-mounting them 7 cm higher up?

Nah, want it in comfortable reach. Also I kinda like how the model and bookcase overlaps a bit. Maybe it should even have overlapped more to look more deliberate

you need to 3d print miniature seagulls. and hang them from the shelves.
