Edges become profiles when I edit

Hi there

I am completely new at working with SketchUp (pro). I am working on floor plans and I am having some issues with edges and profiles. Will try to explain…
I make the floor, I use the offset tool to make exterior walls. The exterior walls are now thick and the interior walls are thin. So far so good. I make interior walls using rectangle tool. I erase edges, so everything is connected. I then notice a mistake and try to edit one of the rectangles. But then a part of my model becomes thick…
How do I edit this? I know I can edit the profiles but I still want some parts of my drawing to have thickness.

Close the loop.

Thank you for your answer. So right now that worked (and I deleted the part just to show the issue). But before when trying to edit things they just kept getting thick…
Maybe I am just not completely following when the edges become profiles

All profiles are edges!
Not all edges are or can be seen as profiles.
Edges that on screen do not show adjacent faces (in the same context) on both sides will be shown as profiles, provided that you have viewing profiles “On”.

So for example now I have fixed the issues with the interior walls. Then I start to make components (doors, furniture etc). I am not working in the group (exterior walls, doors and interior walls). Everything I put inside the floor plan becomes profile edges.

So the issue in general is: can I make some parts non profile edges so I can decide the thickness myself or do I have to either have them showing or not for the entire drawing?

You can’t change the individual thickness. You can play with settings in Styles for the edges and profiles but it is global.

Profile edges are just the contour of an element, you can chose the thickness, style and color of the edges on Layout when your making the documentation.

Play with styles, and understand how geometry works:

And before you get hung up on line weights and styles and etc… make sure you have a good handle on the basics - groups, components, understanding how Tags work, then getting into scenes and styles…

But then it applies to all edges and I can’t make only some smaller?

That’s correctg.

It sounds like you’re trying to apply 2D CAD workflow to SketchUp which is a 3D face modeler. In SketchUp edges exist to define the limits of faces. The thicker Profile edges are mainly an old visualization thing to give 3D shapes a heavier outline.

If you want to control line weight you can do that in LayOut.
