Dynamic and grain orientation

Hi there, could someone please help me with the attached. Changing cupboard sizes when the cupboard has no grain is no problem at all. However, when changing grain direction in OpenCutlist, i.e. Grain follows L which is now the shorter side, for the left and right side of the cabinet and then changing width of said cupboard, the left and right-side orientation goes out.

Hello,

OpenCutList uses the internal axes of components to determine the wood grain direction. Therefore, if you change the wood grain direction using OCL, the internal axes of the components will be modified.

Unfortunately, changing these axes can cause problems with DC calculations.

For best results, the axes should be oriented in the direction of the grain (Red axis = grain) from the moment the dynamic component is created. And after that, you should disable the “Automatic orientation of parts“ option.

Fun fact (which isn’t going to help you right now…), I’m currently working on a future feature to stretch furnitures without being obliged to use DCs.

Great. I wrote such a tool for myself too. It’s very convenient.

Well done !
Major needs seem to find the same solutions!

How do you manage the uniqueness of components? Do you make components unique before analyzing their geometry?

Only unique ones
