DWG Export from LayOut/ SketchUp Not Editable in AutoCAD

Hi everyone,

I’ve run into an issue when collaborating with CAD users:

When I export DWG files from LayOut/ SketchUp they arrive in AutoCAD as images/raster.This means contractors or CAD users cannot edit lines, hatches, or other elements.

My question: Is there a way to export DWG files from LayOut/ SketchUp so that CAD users can work directly with lines, fills, and objects?

hello, before exporting, select the viewport where your sketchup model is inserted, and in the sketchup model panel on the right, make sure vector is selected, instead of raster

are you still using 2025 as your profile indicates ? because dwg export has been improved a lot since 2026

For now, I’m still using 2025 because I don’t have an alternative for Skalp. But I did try exporting my file in 2026, knowing that it has been greatly improved. My viewport is indeed set to raster, so I’ll give that a try. Thanks! Is it then best to always export from LayOut rather than directly from SketchUp itself?

Try using CuricToCad plugin and go direct from SKP to DXF.

Remember also that your hatches will be raster, so likely won’t show up in the CAD file, but that may have changed in 2026.

Vector is really slow :frowning:

depends on what you’ve modelled but yeah, it can be. Vector will render every single little line as a vector line. that’s why it’s editable in autocad.

raster is faster because it’s basically a screenshot.

the more geometry you have in your scene, the longer it’ll take to make a vector view.

Everything was in Vector and exported to DWG in 2026. I don’t have the impression that more points are being snapped in the DWG viewer.

Hi all, as an FYI you can work in LayOut as Raster and delay the vector rendering until you export by using the Output Override feature. This can be found under Document Setup → Rendering.
