Design within first layer

You can’t 3D print a 2D item. However, you can 2D print on a 3D surface (for example, 3D printing in full-color sandstone):

Since this is a case for your Raspberry Pi, you would not want to print it in sandstone, of course. But you can 3D print some very thin 3D solids to simulate the 2D effect you’re looking for in plastic. Using a MakerBot dual-extruder printer set to 0.1mm vertical resolution, you can print the first pass with the triangle in a different color by specifying its thickness as 0.1mm and exporting the box and triangle as two separate STL files. Merging the files in the MakerBot software and assigning them to the appropriate extruders, you get this effect for the first 3 layers:

Without a dual extruder machine, you will need to print two separate pieces and assemble them as previously noted.
