Create a separate Rotate Tool, similar to SKP

For rotating objects in LayOut, it seems logical to simply have a “rotate” tool like in Sketchup (and CAD, Revit, etc. ).

Manipulating the “grip origin” works OK for me. But when I’m transitioning workflow between SKP & LO, it seems more cohesive to create a similar Rotate tool in LO as in SKP. Where I can activate it with a keystroke and have a similar series of clicks as in SKP. The current process of needing to relocate the “grip origin” then pick the alignment then pick the rotation works simply “OK”. It’s frustrating that it seems to reset to horizontal if I escape and get back into editing and have to start over.

(More of an opinion aside here: There are several workflow things which are frustratingly different between SKP & LO. I assume this happens because they are developed separately by different teams. But as someone who uses the pair of programs (I’m an architect/builder), it makes the experience of using the SketchUp Application Suite feel a bit disjointed.)

I’ve argued for a long time that the UI and UX should be as similar as possible
from SKP to LO.

It is sort of unbelievable that we have don’t have basic improvements in LO that are almost universal in other graphics software… The Rotate Tool being one such aspect…

Apart from it not being identical to SU, it is virtually impossible to see on any complex drawings and its colour matches the colour objects turn into when selected… so it becomes completely hidden…

and why does it not have a key modifier (eg holding the shift key down) when you want to rotate an object fixed angle… eg 45,90 degrees…

Sorry… but it is just unfathomable that such simple improvements requested over years have not been attended to!

and yes I know I can type 90, that is a such any inefficient way of implementing the most common of rotation actions in graphics software

The difference between SketchUp and Layout is not a problem for me.

But – yes– rotation with the gizmo is clunky and lacking…

I get better at using layout every day, but then I spend 2 hours of so of each day marking up PDFs using bluebeam and am just blown away at how smooth that program works. I’m this close to just exporting background pdfs from layout and then doing all my title blocks, dimensions, and callouts for shop drawings in bluebeam.
