Crazy Random Blue Lines

I am using 2017 Free in W10. Working on a real simple drawing of table top. Not sure what I did to get these random blue lines but they are driving me crazy. See screen shot. Last night working on a sketch and no lines. Started working on it tonight and these crazy blue line started popping up.

Please help.

Ken Davis

Can you share the model? What did you do exactly before getting those blue lines?

Thanks for responding. I am not sure I did anything. But I am one that needs to learn what different things do. All I can tell you is I am sure it is something I did.

Here is the model

Desk Legs.skp (62.3 KB)

If you triple click the top you will see the blue lines

I opened the file in SU 2026.1 and at first I saw the scene with perhaps two dimensions, then SketchUp’s client area went black and crashed.

Crash #72431 and Crash #72434

The blue lines are corrupted dimension objects (and hidden edges) I think.

So I think I am going to delete the files showing the blue line and maybe reinstalling SU 2017? I think that should fix it maybe/

Thanks a lot for the help.

NO. It is not the application.

The lines are both scaled dimensions and edges but they are hidden.

It’s the model that is messed up. Checking for problems in SU2023 finds none.

By the way, the bottom face of the table is triangulated six ways to Sunday.

I removed all the hidden edges, etc. and grouped the leg that was off to the left of the green axis.

Desk Legs Cleaned.skp (27.4 KB)

How: I used the Ruby Console and some commands to search the top-level model entities collection for hidden edges and then passed the result array to erase_entities.

FTR … the cleaned up file ALSO crashes SU 26.1

Crash #73288

There are extensions that will help remove hidden geometry but it is also good to understand how to deal with it manually so you understand what it is. How it was created is another question.

In the view menu turn on Hidden geometry, then simply select and delete or use the eraser, and as you see here I simply allowed it to delete the two faces as well then put them back. I could have deleted most of it and simply push/pulled the table top back to length.

Hey Box thank you so much for the video. Like I said I am still in the early learning stage so your help is much appreciated. I am a visual learner so this is great.

Thanks again,
Ken Davis

Hey Dan thank you so much for working with me. I am learning more everyday. It is still a mystery to me how “hidden geometry” became such an issue in this drawing.

Thanks again,
Ken Davis

I am not sure myself. In your original screen snip there are a couple of dimension arrows with giant proportions. There is still something not right with the mode las it still crashes 26.1.
