Corrupted .skp file recovery request - Google Drive sync issue

Hi everyone,

My SketchUp file got corrupted after a Google Drive sync issue while saving. When trying to open it, SketchUp shows the error “The file does not appear to be a SketchUp model”.

I tried extracting the internal zip structure and recovering the model.dat file, but SketchUp still won’t accept it.

The file is 292 MB. Could someone from the team or community please help me run a repair on the binary structure/header to recover the geometry?

I’m pretty sure your file is cooked. looking inside, there is no mention of “mention.dat”
there should be two, one before the model’s data, one after.

@colin can confirm, this doesn’t bode well for your data.

Google drive keeps a history of files versions-

I’d go and download another one from the past

How to manage versions:

1. Go to Google Drive on the web.

2. Right-click the file (or click the three vertical dots/More menu).

3. Select File information > Manage versions.

4. Here you can upload a new version, download old versions, delete old versions, or click Keep forever.

There is no ‘classic’ SketchUp 2024 license. Can you correct your profile?

Are you using a cr4cked version? We see a lot of file issues with people using unlicensed software.

Some of the end of the file is missing, I can’t recover anything.
