Corrupted Layout File error

This file was working perfectly earlier today, but now opening it gives this error message.

the file is too big to attach (39MB) so here is a link:

Thank you.

Are you still using SketchUp/LayOut 2024? It opened fine for me in LO 2026. Your message indicates the file is saved to a shared drive. Where is that drive located? On an external server? I expect the access isn’t fast enough and it’s timing out. What happens if you put it on the local internal drive? Can you open it then?

I checked references and there are some unused ones which I purged.

Do you want me to see what I can cleanup in the .skp file?

FWIW, I did go through the SketchUp file. I purged unused content and reduced the largest of the remaining materials to a max of 1024 px wide.

That reduced the SketchUp file size by 62.3%. Between that reduction and purging unused content from the LO file, there’s a 47% reduction in the LO file. That might be enough to reduce the time it takes for LO to open it from the shared drive. Still, it’s risky to work on files that are saved externally.

Here’s the reduced file.

thank you thank you thank you!

The Layout file opened and appears to be working properly.

I am using Layout version 25.0.660 and it did give me a version warning when opening, but worked properly anyway.

How were you able to access the skp file from the layout file? Is it embedded?

You’re welcome.

Please update your forum profile. It says you’re using 2024.

Yeah. LayOut does that when you open a file that was saved in a different version.

Yes. I right clicked on a viewport and opened it from there. LO files are technically a zip file which contains files related to the project as well as embedded copies of the references (including unused references until you purge them). If you want to replace your bloated SketchUp working file with the one from the LO file, open the SketchUp file by right clicking on the viewport and clicking on Open with SketchUp. Use Save as … to save it in your project folder. Then in LO’s Document Setup>References, select the .skp file, click on Relink, and then select the file you just saved. Going forward do your work in that SketchUp file instead of your old one.

Ok got it, I will do that.

Thanks again!
