Corrupted file error: "File does not appear to be a SketchUp model" (150MB)

Hello!

My SketchUp file suddenly crashed and now displays the error: “The file does not appear to be a SketchUp model.” When I try to open the .skb backup file, it says “Error opening this document.”

The file size is 150 MB, so the data is still there. I already tried changing the extension to .zip, but the archive appears as corrupted.

Could someone from the team or an advanced user help me recover or rebuild the file structure? Here is the download link to my file:

Thank you so much for your help!

Um, no. It’s 150 Mb of nothing. The .skp file is nothing but zeroes.

The .skb file is about two thirds zeroes. Nothing recoverable from either file.

Where were you saving the file while working on it? Is it a cr acked version of SketchUp? Did you experience a power failure while working on the file?

Thank you so much for checking the files and looking into this, DaveR.

I really appreciate your time. To answer your question, yes, I experienced a severe system freeze while working on the model, and I had to force-shut down my PC.

It seems that is exactly when the files got corrupted and overwritten with zeroes. It is a painful loss, but at least now I know for sure there is nothing else to do and I can stop trying.

I will definitely take your advice into account to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Thank you again for your help.

Ah. That would explain it. And is it a cr acked version of SketchUp?
