Does anyone have any experience as to why after creating a component the thumbnail in the component browser turns black? I created the Pantry a few weeks back and came back to look at this blacking issue today.
Even today creating a simple box as a component after creating the pantry cabinet, you can see the simple box also came out black.
Saving the model with right click “save as” as a component without the file wrapper still saves the preview thumbnail in black as well, so there is no point to “reload” as you would to update the component browser thumbnail.
Attached is Thumbnail 1, this shows the black thumbnail inside the internally created component model browser.
Attached is Thumbnail 2, this shows the top windows explorer window where the Model/File is saved, and the bottom windows explorer window which shows where the final component is saved.
Attached also is the model.
I’m guessing it has something to do with how you created the components or a style setting, can’t pin it down.
But if you copy/paste them into a new model then open them and reverse a face they will be displayed correctly and you can orient the faces back and it works.
In fact, you don’t need to move them to a new model, the non dynamic one works with an edit and the dynamic one works with right click redraw. It’s something to do with shadows. Turn shadows off.
There it is, you have light and dark set too close together in shadows. I can reproduce it.

I have saved over the original file given your copy/paste method fixed it, just curious about the second methods you mention though, so the non dynamic box you simply edited what exactly? was it just like opening the component, deleted then adding back an edge or something like that? and then the dynamic pantry right click redraw you mention, I don’t have redraw as a right click option…
Dark is 65 and light is 80… are these still too close? I also turned off ground shadow…
So ultimately from your experiences you reckon this issue is based around a shadow issue?
Turning shadows off fixes the issue so I’m assuming it has to do with the light/dark, could be something else.

Turn off shadows first, they aren’t doing anything for you anyway.
Open the non dynamic component by double click, right click on a face and select Reverse faces, click outside the bounding box to close the component, thumbnail should change.
The Dynamic component redraw is in the Dynamic component submenu. If you have pro as your profile says it should be there.
