Collaboration Cloud Confusion

The new collaboration features in 2026 are a great addition. But I have some confusion, complaints, questions and requests. I am a single Pro user and don’t really want to primarily keep my work on the cloud. I’m happy with working on local copies, uploading and sharing and sending out a link, when I want someone to have access to my model. I don’t really need “multiple people working on it from the 4 corners of the world" capability, although that is what I suspect Sketchup is trying to provide, but maybe not quite fully baked yet.

The ability to create a link that lets anyone view the model is great. However it doesn’t appear they can turn on and off tags? It that correct and why not?

There is some confusion about what the collaboration web view will do if I’m logged in? It seems to let me do more? like toggle tags ???

I went to work on my model, in sketchup pro, and somehow ended up editing the cloud version. There is no obvious indication that you are editing the cloud version. I saved my changes and then that version got linked into layout, where my layout file was local. There is also seemingly some kind of versioning going on in the cloud storage. There needs to be some explanation of that. I would like it be be very obvious where my model file is.

How is sketchup free related to all this? If I upload my model, (or give the file to someone and they upload) It appears they can edit the model (that’s ok) and view it in a very similar manner as the collaboration viewer, but with “free version” editing.

The ability to see and manage what is on the cloud seems rough and difficult to get into. (I’m a local file system fanboy). There is all this Trimble cloud stuff, some explanation of the boundaries between sketchup and trimble cloud features would be useful.

Could Aaron and the youtube channel team please put together some videos on this?
