Chaos cosmos tree model help!

Hi there, may i know why my chaos cosmos tree model turns out to be dark/black instead of showing vibrant colours of the leaves and branches?

Because it’s back lit. You have exposed for the bright white room and flood of light.

How should i lit the tree up? What are the methods?

You could direct lights at the tree to illuminate itmore than the whites and light grays of the surroundings. Frankly I think your render is fine as it is. Unless the focus of the image is the tree, I wouldn’t do anything to light the tree specifically. What I see seems natural enough as it is. If you had other areas that were blocked up and too dark I would suggest adding more interior lights to even out the lighting but you don’t have those areas.

What is the focus of this render?

The main focus is the dining area, but also the show some of the background( the tree, and the living area). I just feel that the tree isn’t realistic as it should be in real life.

If I intentionally direct some light to the tree, won’t it cause unncessary shadows and doesn’t look too realistic imo.

I think unless you want to spotlight the tree intentionally like it was a piece of art, it’s more realistic as it is. Lighting the tree will cast shadows. They can be very soft shadows but if there are none that will look even less realistic.

I look at renders like yours from the point of view of a photographer (Many years as a commercial photographer under my belt) and what I see in your render now is more realistic that it would be if you add some invisible light source to illuminate the tree. If you are set on lighting the tree, add lights on the ceiling that are aimed at it and make it look like it’s intentional.

Anything you do to light that tree more will distract from the rest of your story, though.

I agree. It appears as it should in what looks like a very nicely lit and exposed shot (rendering). I would expect exactly this type of silhouette effect in this image and it appears realistic.

A tree with lighter color and larger leaves might look different though.

I agree with @DaveR and @monospaced that the render looks good as it is. But if you want to emphasize the dining area you could “turn on” the lights over the table.
