Can't switch between 2024 and 2025

Sketchup Pro 24 & 25 Mac Studio OS Sequoia 15.3.1

I have installed 2025. It’s fine except I have lost all my personalised settings. Menubar at the top of the document, keyboard shortcuts, and all my extensions.

So I decided to go back to using 24 until I could find out how to migrate my settings and extensions (if indeed that’s possible) but I can’t get back in.

I got a message “You have exceeded your allowed activations
To continue, please sign out of another instance of SketchUp, or use the link below to sign out of all versions you have authorized in the past. Then, click the profile icon above to sign out and try again.”

So I signed out of 25 and went back to 24 and get a message “We are experiencing technical difficulties. This device is not authorized. Please sign out and sign back in to continue or enter a classic license.”

So I do this and sign back in and on opening 24 get a new message “You have exceeded your allowed activations. To continue, please sign out of another instance of SketchUp, or use the link below to sign out of all versions you have authorized in the past. Then, click the profile icon above to sign out and try again.”

This just goes on in endless circles.

So I use the link “Manage Activations” to sign out of all versions and it takes me to my account. Nowhere in my account pages can I find any reference to specific activations of 24 or 25. Under “Products” it shows simply that I have an active Pro Licence.

Under members it shows me as account owner but I am greyed out. I have tried turning this on and signing out and in and it’s grey once more.

So I have no idea how to sign out of all previous (or any versions) when I can’t find any versions shown - only the global Pro activation.

Any ideas anyone?

Aside from not being able to re-open 24 (even when signed out of 25) I am able to open 25. Is there any way I can migrate all my personal settings: shortcuts, toolbars, recent files, and extensions from 24 to 25?

If there is no official Sketchup way of doing this do any Mac users know if there are user folders and files in the library that I can just copy across from one version to the other?

This very frustrating. If anyone can help it will spare the few hairs I have left.

I had that error when doing some signing in. You get the technical error when you have another copy of SketchUp still open, after you have deauthorized all devices. The mistake SketchUp is making is that it sees the now not authorized version of SketchUp, and no matter what you do, this copy of SketchUp won’t authorize.

So, make sure no other copy of SketchUp is still open.

For the migrating of extensions, there is this extension you can install into 2025:

It is possible to copy shortcuts across from the 2024 preferences to the 2025 preferences, but editing those files might accidentally cause a problem, and so manually re-entering the shortcuts in 2025 would be safer.

Thank you Colin

But I have no copy of Sketchup open at the time.

When I try to start 24, 25 is both closed and logged out and 24 is closed because I am trying to open it! I have no other versions my system.

I will check out the extension you suggest tomorrow.

Busy cooking dinner right now!! :grinning:

Perhaps overlooked but sometimes a machine restart cures all ills. Worth a try.

Yes I have tried a restart. Doesn’t seem to help. But certainly I will try a full housekeeping sweep. Make sure I am logged out of both Sketchups first and then restart.

As of today I am fully occupied with visiting grand children. Have to wait now 'till early next week. :slightly_smiling_face:

I am having the exact same problem.
Is there a resolution or any other ideas to resolve this issue?
Thanks,
Bob

Have you tried Deauthorize All

Thank you Oh LearnedOne!

Thanks RLGL for that link. It gives really clear explanations which have (fingers crossed) solved my problems. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Hi Colin.

Finally managed to deauthorise all and get up and running again.

What a blessing the migration tool is. Multiple thank you’s for pointing me to that!

Great thread. Same issues here. Q: After De-authorizing ALL, will I be able to have both 2024 and 2025 on my computer? I’m not looking to explain why I want to do this, just asking if anyone has experience to help answer this.

yes, you will. It’ll release the two activations you can have, either on two different computers or the same one. I can work on 2024 and 2025 at the same time.
I sometimes get back to 2022 for various matters so I have to deauthorize all from times to times
By the way, is it possible to skip the extra-security thing involving phone or whatever it is (i mean, for good) ?

I can confirm paul.millet’s reply. Having cleared my problems with “De-authorise All” I now have 2024 and 2025 happily co-existing side by side.
