I run SketchUp Pro 2016 on a MacBook Pro. Yesterday, I downloaded the Rake and Splay plug-in. The install went just fine; no problems. However, I can get the plug-in to work only once. I used it to set the compound angle for a table leg. But then I decided I wanted the leg raked and splayed at a different angle. So I deleted the original leg component and the Rake and Splay layers and started anew. But this time, Rake and Splay didn’t work. It didn’t generate the miter plane and the angle planes, nor did it generate its extra layers. It’s not as if the plug-in disappeared, it just isn’t working. Today, I opened a new SU file and tried the plug-in again. Again, it didn’t work. Any suggestions? Could this be an issue caused by my using SU2016?
Thanks,
dh
I’m the author of the Rake and Splay plugin, so of course I’m concerned to know what is going on. No, it is not an issue with 2016 or with MacBook Pro (both of which I use myself). You have discovered a bug in my code: it assumes it created the required layers when first activated and the doesn’t check again later! So, when you deleted the layers (which is not necessary, by the way) the tool couldn’t create any more geometry! It ought to reset itself if you close SketchUp and restart, though admittedly you shouldn’t have to do that.
I’ll get onto fixing this right away. Due to other time commitments it may take a couple of days. In the meantime, don’t delete those layers!
Dear Steve,
Many thanks for the fast, thoughtful, and very helpful response. I’ll reinstall Rake and Splay in a few days. It’s a very helpful plug-in. And now that I know better, I won’t delete those layers.
Best,
dh
Please download and install a new version 1.1 from the sketchUcation plugin store (turned out it was an easy fix). This bug should now be fixed. Thanks for the heads up!
Dear Steve,
The plug-in works like a charm. Glad it needed only a simple fix. Thanks again for taking care of this so rapidly.
Best,
dh
