Cannot Snap Dimensions to Model in Vector Viewport (Layout 2025)

Hi everyone,

I’m using SketchUp Layout 2025, and I’m having trouble snapping dimensions to my model in a Vector Viewport. The Dimension tool won’t snap to any model geometry, endpoints, midpoints, or edges show up. On top of that, Layout runs very slowly when in Vector or Hybrid mode.

Here’s what I’ve already tried:

  • Set the viewport render mode to Vector and Hybrid
  • Ensured camera is Parallel Projection
  • Used standard orthographic views (Top, Front, etc.)
  • Updated and relinked the SketchUp model reference
  • Ensured geometry isn’t deeply nested and should be accessible
  • Saved and updated correct scenes in SketchUp
  • Set viewport to fixed scale (not “Fit to Page”)
  • Restarted both SketchUp and Layout

Still no success.

Additional Info:

The file is not unusually large compared to my previous jobs.
I can snap dimensions successfully if I only have one viewport in the Layout file.
The issue happens in this document with 12 pages, each containing around 4 to 5 viewports.
Performance drastically drops with more viewports, especially in Vector mode.

I wonder if there is anything anyone can help.

Work in Raster. It is faster.
Use the Output Overide to export to Vector or Hybrid.

Share the LayOut file if you can (use DropBox or WeTransfer if it is too large to post here).
Delete customer information, and if you want maybe delete extra pages and share the one giving you trouble.

Thanks bmike, but it’s harder to snap on an intersection, ie for dimension that are very close to another intersection(s) in Raster, and I have a lot of those. :frowning:

Are you using new or old graphics engine?
Have you tried Draft Mode to speed things up?

Do you have fill on in your SketchUp viewports?
Is there a layer with geometry over the top of the SketchUp viewport like a title block rectangle / grid lines / leader for notes / etc. that could be causing issues? I often turn off my structural grids and notes (which are on top of the viewports).

Can you share the file?

No, I’ve checked all that except Draft Mode, what is that? Anyway I am now switching all my viewports to raster then change it to vector when I work on it. So I am working on only one vector viewport at a time. It is doing okey so far.

Thanks for the tip, still do like to know what you meant by Draft Mode though.
