Can you unbend something thats been bent with true bend tool

with the true bend tool, is there a way to unbend something the same way it was bent to get it into its original flat form? or are there any other plug ins for this? I’ve been looking but cant find anything. Thanks

Depending on what it is that you bent, you could maybe use Unwrap and Flatten Faces from the Extension Warehouse to flatten a surface. Then delete coplanar edges and use Push/Pull to extrude it back to 3D.

For the future, before bending the thing make a copy of it to keep as an original. If it’s a component remember to use Make Unique before bending one of them.

i needed two holes in it where the stairs are and then random holes scattered around the rest of the shape. so i did the stairs hole while it was bent to get it in the right place however was thinking that doing the rest of the random holes would be faster if it was flat and if i could unbend it i could work around the stair holes if you know what i mean. so i cant really save one before i bend it as i need it with the holes in those exact spaces if that makes sense

If it’s solid you can make solid shapes to cut out the holes you need…

I know what you are getting at. It would be cool if you could have a flattened version that, when edited, would result in holes in the bent one but that won’t happen in SketchUp.

Is the tower a solid object? I would model the holes as solid volumes and use the Solid Tools to trim the tower with them.

yeah sadly i dont think it can happen either, yeah ill do the solid volumes and subtract them from the tower, thank you anyways

solids have an advantage : no distorsion.

if you want to make a hole in your shape that has parallel sides (to place a door for example) you’ll need to do it with solids.
doing it before and then bending will distort your geometry, the side faces won’t be parallel anymore.
