I have a chair I made using meshy saved as USDZ file and imported it into SU26 pro. But cant select the legs on their own to recolour them I can select entire chair with cushions or nothing tried everything drew box up under the legs and sleected intersect faces with selection and still wont split the object in any way, its like its still a group bit its not grouped…any ideas?..cheers all
Share the .skp file so we can see exactly what you have. Typically when you import a file into SketchUp it comes in as a component. If you want to edit part of it you need to open the component for editing. For applying materials you’ll need to open the component to get to the faces.
Are you still using SketchUp 2017 Make, El Capitan, and that old AMD Radeon graphics card?
you can see object is totally exploded but I select it in any way I select all geometry nothing else here is SKP …
What do you mean by ‘skp’? The model is ‘skp’, meaning raw geometry - edges and faces. And you can select what and how you want.
But normally you just use the imported model to help you create better geometry in SketchUp, through a remodeling (retopologizing), or you can use an extension to simplify the model that has 170,000 entities.

It’s because meant just makes one giant blob of geometry. You either use it as is or you start to remodel it to suit your purpose
I see the slection you made showing in blue but I cant do that… that is what I am trying to do…. if I make selection rectangle around the legs nothing selects….. if I click on the chair it selects all connected geometry even though the object is totally exploded.
Yes I see in this video the way you are selecting geometry but this is what I cant do, I can click the object and all geometry is selected but if I draw selection box around anywhere is selects nothing even thought the chair is totally exploded
Did you notice that in my video the hidden geometry (softened edges) is visible?
View > Hidden Geometry
