SketchUp’s native tool ‘Follow Me’ helps you out instantly. See next image:
- select the edge A-B that needs a perpendicular face
- select the ‘Follow Me’ tool
- with the tool selected click on the face C
As you can see, A-B isn’t along any of the three axes
Face C (any shape) can be in almost any plane (here ground plane) but not in a way that A-B is coplanar or parallel with face C (so planes coplanar or parallel with A-B are excluded).
The result gives you an extrusion with both the beginning and the end face perpendicular to A-B.

Brilliant - and having created the perpendicular surface I can just copy and paste it straight onto the edge.
That is so simple and perfect - thanks a ton.
