Building a web-based CAD tool that integrates with SketchUp — looking for beta testers

Hi everyone,

I’m developing a web-based CAD tool that integrates closely with SketchUp, and I’m looking for beta testers from the SketchUp community.

The tool is called Skima, and it aims to streamline the 2D–3D workflow for SketchUp users by connecting drafting and modeling more directly.

Key features in the current beta

1. Automatic floor plan generation from SketchUp models

Skima can automatically generate a floor plan directly from your SketchUp model.

It requires light IFC-style tagging (walls, doors, windows), and there is no need to export to AutoCAD or LayOut first.

Floor plan demo:

Additional demos (wall extrusion from CAD, mouse-over information, BIM panel) are also available on the same YouTube channel.

2. Web-based CAD engine for further editing

The generated floor plan can be edited in a browser-based CAD workspace.

SketchUp tags, materials, and components are visible and organized for drafting.

3. Easy sharing and review

Drawings can be shared through a simple link.

Recipients do not need SketchUp or any installation to view the CTB-styled drawing.

4. CTB-based PDF export

Outputs clean, CTB-styled PDF drawings directly from the web.

5. SketchUp ⇄ CAD two-way workflow (experimental)

When you draw a closed shape in Skima, you can send it back to SketchUp with one click,

and it will be extruded to the predefined wall height.

This is useful for quick layout prototyping and adjusting floor plans directly from the CAD side.

6. BIM panel (quantity data)

A BIM panel displays basic quantity information directly on the canvas:

wall volume, door/window profiles, counts, and other data extracted from the SketchUp geometry.

Beta status

Skima is still in beta and is being updated frequently based on user feedback.

If you’re interested in testing it, your feedback would be extremely helpful.

Feedback can be submitted via the bug icon on the drawing canvas.

Thanks for taking the time — even small comments help.
