Hi, I found a free model of a chair in the internet but after opening it in SketchUp its a full surface without components.
What i’m trying to do is to split the chair into components that would then allow me to do templates to build the chair in real life.
Sorry, i’m a noob can you help me?

Start by grouping the entire model if it is not already a group. Then, outside the group draw a rectangle at each place you would want to cut the whole. It is sometimes easier to draw a rectangle in one of the cardinal planes and then move and rotate it into position. Since the chair has side-to-side symmetry, draw a cutting rectangle on one side and then use the flip tool around the mid plane to make the corresponding cutter on the other side.
Select the cutter planes and edit-copy them. Open the group for edit and do edit paste in place. Select all and do right-click intersect faces with selection. That will cut the chair into pieces. Select all the geometry for one part and make it a component.
Repeat this process for each additional distinct part, remembering that parts for one side are mirror images of the opposite side. So you can create one component for both and flip a copy to make an instance for the other side.
This process is a lot faster and easier than it might seem from all those words. I’m writing this on my phone, so I can’t make an animation to show you. But one of the other members will likely step in to do that.
