When importing .dwg’s, I always use this extension: [https://extensions.sketchup.com/extension/8cf14bd2-2de7-4e09-867a-dc0502ba2ffb/simplify-contours-tool](https://extensions.sketchup.com/extension/8cf14bd2-2de7-4e09-867a-dc0502ba2ffb/simplify-contours-tool) Before doing the lathe, select the edges and ‘weld’ the parts that need to be ‘smoothed’. Than run the simplify extension to reduce the edgecount.
