Best way to add geometry to a component?

I haven’t found a good way to add geometry to a component. I believe if I right click on the component in the outliner and click edit component, I can then add the new geometry. The problem with this method is that it hides the rest of the model, and I often have reference points I want to snap to that disappear.

What is the best way to edit a component while keeping view of the entire model so that I can use the reference points I have created with the ruler?

If this is a problem, you can change this in the model infos:

Change setting in menu View > Component Edit > to not ‘Hide Rest of Model’.

Much better, thanks!

Experienced modelers assign keyboard shortcuts to easily toggle these view settings.
View > Component Edit > Hide Rest Of Model and Hide Similar Components
