Best Rendering Workflow for Large SketchUp Models

Hi everyone,

I’m working on several architectural projects in SketchUp and would like to improve the quality of my renders without increasing render time too much.

For larger residential and commercial models, what workflow has worked best for you?

  • Do you prefer V-Ray, Enscape, D5 Render, or another renderer?
  • How do you optimize textures and materials?
  • Any tips for reducing render time while maintaining realistic lighting and reflections?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your workflow and any optimization techniques you’ve found useful.

Thanks!

VRay and Chaos Cloud

Not sure about optimizing materials / etc.
Level of detail, quality of final output, client expectations, final render size… they all impact render time.

may want to look at AI to render’ I ended up getting Super Grok and it’s amazing’ have not rendered in a while now’
hope it helps’

Lean on the denoiser.

Ensure you have plenty of direct light sources.

Don’t create / use complex or expensive materials

If the actual render time is the bottleneck - I fire up my vray scene in vantage.

If you use your own computer to render with a modern rendering application, you might be hampered by your computer’s lack of a dedicated (Nvidia) graphics card. For now you are limited to only CPU rendering. Most modern renderers support the use of GPU or RTX rendering using a Nvidia graphics card, which is usually significantly faster.
