Assigning Material Colors as Tag Colors

Is there a way to quickly sample a material (in my case a solid color) that has been applied to an object and assign that material as a Tag color?

I am aware of how to do it the other way around…assigning a tag color the normal way…then editing an existing material with the “Match Color on Screen” eyedropper in the “Edit Material” window and then sampling the Tag Color in the Tags tray to assign the Tag Color as a Material…

This would accomplish what I’m trying to do but backwards, seems imprecise because the tag colors are only customizable via sliders or HSB/HSL values, and is a little complicated.

What I would really like to do is to be able to assign the “Colors-Named” as Tag colors. But an eyedropper-type tool in the window where you can customize the Tag color would also do what I want in an efficient way.

In this example I have applied regular, non edited colors from the Materials tray to all the objects in the model. How would I go about changing the Tag color for the 12" boxes from purple to Cyan, the 12" pyramid Tag color from green to pink, etc.

Hello
You can change Color Picker in both Material and Tag to RGB, then copy RGB values like the image below (left side is Tag and right side is Material)

If you want to do quicker for many tags at once, you can use my extension called “5D+ Auto Tag”. Which help you can import tags from an Excel list with color via RGBA values, or even import tags from a SketchUp file, include textures assigned for tag. It’s all free.
And here is video about it from @JustinTSE:

Thank you for sharing that!

I was unaware of that extension but I will check it out, it looks like it would accomplish what I was trying to do in addition to a whole lot of other features that I am going to find useful.

Thank you very much!
