I am trying to work out the area of tiles i need but the area function is giving me wrong values.
In the attached i can get the the correct are size if i select the the actual surface of tiles.
You can see that the group of tiles doesn’t have the tile material on other reverse or other parts of the object . When i select the group i get a different value.
When i copy the tiled group i get an even bigger area value.
If you want the area by material for all of the tiled faces you need to have them in the same context. Here I added that loose face in your model to the group and rotated it so both tiled faces show. Right clicking on one of the faces and selecting Area>Material yields the total area of the tiled faces in that group.
You’ve got so much unneed nesting of groups and components in your model that it’s very difficult to work with and impossible to extract a total area by material for the tiled faces. I copied the bathrooms into a new file. Then I deleted everything but the tiled walls and exploded all to raw geometry. Here I’ve added area labels for the various wall surface with tile. I skipped labeling the skinny edges of the around the niches. The sum of those areas is 224.08 sq ft. The area by material is 224.62 sq ft. The difference is easily accounted for by those thin faces I didn’t label.
I’ll be back to this as soon as I can but I would suggest cleaning up the model by eliminating the unneeded nesting levels. I don’t really see any point in making separate groups for the different wall sections in each bathroom considering the information you need to extract from the model.
