I have just seen a video by Justin Geis showing a new development regarding Add Location: it is now an extension and allows one to download context buildings.
Have you seen it? It seems to be a Windows only thing, unfortunately.

it always was. and it’s on mac too…
No. It supports both Windows and Mac according to the Extension Warehouse page.

Having it as an extension makes it easier for the Add Location developers to make and release updates to it so they don’t have to wait until a maintenance release of SketchUp.
I thought it would come with Sketchup. It is great to be able to import context.
I believe it’s a shipped extension but it’s still an extension and when updates are released you’ll get a notification upon startup as with other extensions you install from the Extension Warehouse.
What Dave said about the extension itself is true (how it is a shipped extension that you may get notifications about an update), there may be a changes that need the extension to be updated. For the cases where there are new features added, some can be achieved by only changing the online code, so that web and desktop both get the new features. No need to update the extension.
The extension that is the new add location feature is the Habitat one. It has been on desktop since SketchUp 2024. You can go through the steps Justin showed, either in the web version, or desktop 2024 or 2025, and you will see the 3D building option.
What called my attention and made me think it was something new was the 3D Buildings feature. Of course, I was aware of the improvements to Add Location introduced in 2024 but nowhere the 3D Buildings feature was mentioned. At least no one made much of it. I reread the Release Notes and could not find any mention there either.
no, since it’s a plugin, you won’t find stuff about it in the release notes.
it’s been like this for a couple of month I’d say ?
