yeah, it’s due to the fact that Trimble chose to rename layers into tags and then decided that in french it should be translated.
first it was balises as in html tag.
now it is etiquettes as in luggage tag.
and because translation is automated, it’s a mess. (don’t forget the AI motto, just because it’s faster doesn’t mean it’s better)
couldn’t it have been simpler to JUST call them tags ? after all, it’s 2026, we’ve been tagging each other on social network for a couple of decade now.

I still believe that the term “Layer” was much more appropriate for the behavior of this attribute, since it can only contain a single choice. This is not the idea commonly associated with “Tag” or “Label,” which often has multiple values elsewhere… Not to mention that at least it was consistent with DXF.
