A minor annoyance: Unexpected file format glitch

Does anyone else get this ‘Unexpected file format’ message when opening from the recent files list? It only happens when I do that, but not all the time. When this happens it erases the file from the recents list and I have to open it from the Open menu, dig for the file, etc… But then they open just fine.

We see this from users fairly regularly. In most cases the problem seems to stem from issues related to saving when the file is saved directly to the cloud, a network drive, or to an external USB drive. In most cases the files are largely filled with zeroes.

Seems there might be something different going on in your case. Where are you finding the file when you dig for it?

What operating system are you using? 2023 is not an operating system.

I find the files where they are supposed to be. I updated my profile, Win11

Is “where they are supposed to be” a local drive (i.e. your C: drive)? Or is it somewhere else?

I think everybody gathers that.

The question was probably asking whether you keep them on a local SSD (maybe in the same folder as listed in your preferences) or on an internal sata drive or an external backup drive of some description. I find files that I store on my local SSD always open up fine from the recent files list, but once I move them into longer term storage on either an internal sata drive or external backup drive I can experience the same thing as you described if I ever have to reopen them from the recent files list

I keep all my files on a local SSD. No clouds
