A couple years ago I taught SU to an illustrator making comic books because he was really bad at perspective and drawing cities.
Until then, he would take photos in cities and use them as reference. and he learned how to model streets of buildings in SU (from real maps or not), place camera, and scenes. Bonus point is, he could for example have characters walk in a street, and use it for several backgrounds that would… match.
He got the idea from a forum where someone talked about Japanese (or Korean? not sure) comic book artists who use SU files as a background for quickly-made soap comic books.
edit : in this style, I saw it on SU’s blog last year.
