This time on SketchUp Live, @TheOnlyAaron designs and models a timber framed ceiling. It’s vaulted, it’s aesthetic, it’s heavy, and, no doubt, fun to model!
Tune in live for useful SketchUp tips; we wish you wood—er, would.
Great session today and thank-you for having Mike on. It is one thing to model up something like this and have it look good (which by the way it came out great, excellent job), but it it is a whole different level when you bring on an industry professional like Mike and he explains how he actually uses SketchUp to do this sort of thing in his daily workflow. I would love for you guys to have a session where he shows us a few things or two. I would certainly not miss that one.
On a slightly different note, my work on the timber truss module of the Truss plugin was seeing some advancements (last year, Feb. 2025) but something pulled me sideways and it got put on the back burner, sadly
This modeling session has perhaps refocused me a bit and maybe once I finish up a few more API updates I will again put a bit more effort into adding in some more timber truss functionality.
Most of construction in my opinion is pretty rudimentary stuff and in most cases not super exciting for most people (architects specifically). Timber trusses is where wood construction really gets to show off and a well designed timber truss roof with all that exposed wood (and hardware) is really a sight to behold.
