Hi all, first time posting in the Community. Here is the issue:
High School computer lab with 20 of the following type of License: SketchUp 2026 School Network Lab License. All computers are up to date, and all licenses are installed using a Serial Number and Authorization code provided by Creation Engine (Our EDU license reseller). Students are signed into the Warehouse via generic school Google emails, and are being forced to watch a video before they can download more than five items.
This is not happening to all students, but around five so far.
Steps taken:
- Sign out of all accounts, gmail and Trimble, sign out of warehouse and Sketchup.
- Delete all tracking, browsing history and the Sketchup Web Cache folder.
No success.
The videos prompt us to Subscribe, but our license keys/ activation codes and Authorization should preclude the use of a subscription. Please note that this happned last year too, but autoresolved itself.

Any help would be appreciated. I can provide more details if it helps.
Thanks
David
yes. this is the default behaviour of the 3d warehouse when you don’t have a go / pro / studio subscription.
after 5 download you get an ad for sketchup. and it resets the count.
LABs licences are not subscriptions, that’s why some elements like AI render might not work, and why the warehouse should displays the ad every 5 downloads.
at this point it’s normal behaviour (as in it’s working the way they intend it to)
Thanks for responding, however this has not been the case for several years of using EDU lab licenses. As I said, EDU Lab licenses preclude a subscription, we should not need them or use them.
And currently it is only affecting 1 in 4 users, not all. I belive it to be an issue on the Trimble side, but I cannot find any link to open a support ticket or contact customer support.
yes, it has been the case for a few month, I’d say a year even maybe ? 35s ad for sketchup every 5 downloads.
I worked for a couple of training centers that had LAB licences, and because of that the trainees still had to start a trial to access specific things (add location and AI render)
Now, on the list of features, it says 3d warehouse, and it’s correct, your student have access.
The issue in my opinion is that the warehouse requires you to be logged in. LABs don’t.
so your students can use sketchup without creating an account, until they try to download a model.
Maybe some of them activated their trial when they created their accounts, making them pro accounts for a week (therefore, no ads?)
because of the way LABs licences work, without needing a trimble account, I guess this situation will remain as it is.
indeed, I guess it could/should be all of them. maybe some of the machine are behind a different firewall, or an adblocker ? you’re right, it should be all or nothing.
the “default” channels will probably not work. I assume you got these licences through a reseller or someone at trimble’s? Might wanna start there, or ask your IT dept for their contact. They should know the specifics of what you can access without ads.
@Jake_from_SketchUp and @TheGuz might tell you more about the way the warehouse behaves now, @colin to the rescue for the right ping maybe ?
Firstly, thank you so much for the detailed responce! Creation Engine, the reseller of Lab SU licenses has also replied with the following:
“…the 3D Warehouse treats students as unauthorized or free tier visitors.
The Sketchup support team confirmed the following: The download limit is the same for Classic Users as they are for Free users”, confirming what you stated (thanks again).
I have no explanation for why this is only affecting some computers, not all, and not occuring to every student since we use school created edu gmail accounts to ‘sign in’ to the Warehouse.
It’s very frustrating, and an unwelcome change in policies. Thank you sooo much again for the detail responce!
