I recently updated to 2024. Now I have these floating apparitions that appear. As I zoom they move and either increase or decrease in quantity. I went to Help and check for updates. Said I have the latest version. What is the fix?
Graphics artifacts. What’s the graphics card? Your profile doesn’t provide correct information about it.
I believe there was a previous report of similar glitches. Try changing to the classic graphics and see if they go away. If so, there is an issue between your graphics card and the new graphics engine in SketchUp. BTW, “8380MB” does not identify your graphics card in any useful way.
This is my graphics card info. How do I change to Classic Graphics?
Please put that in your forum profile along with the correct SketchUp version.
In SketchUp, go to Preferences>Graphics and select the Classic Graphics Engine. Click OK, quit, and restart SketchUp.
Also take a moment to go to the AMD site to get their latest drivers for your GPU. Install them.
I added info to my Profile.
That worked, thank you!
I also noticed that the issue was not apparent on 2023, even before these changes. Plus 2023 has more options on the File dropdown. And more Import file options. I am going to go back to 2023 so I can do what I was able to do before.
SketchUp 2023 doesn’t have the same new graphics engine.
Exactly what options are missing from the File menu?
Again, what import options are missing?
Very likely the additional menu items and import options come from extensions that you have yet to install in SketchUp 2024.
Under File I don’t have Geo Location and Trimble Connect.
For imports I don’t have Revit files.
Thanks again for your help. I have not had any issues in the past going from update to update.
That was changed to Add Location.
That should be present in the File menu.
You would have needed to install the Revit importer when you installed SketchUp. It’s an option presented in the installation window.
Ah, I see them now for the File question.
I don’t recall seeing the Revit option when I updated from 2023 to 2024. Guess I assumed it would come along. I will uninstall and reinstall.
Much appreciated.
Each major release of SketchUp installs as a separate program.
When you reinstall, find the downloaded installer, right click on it, choose Run as administrator and then Repair. Let it run.
You can then find the Revit importer in the Extension Warehouse
https://extensions.sketchup.com/extension/83ac914b-cea0-4c1f-8fe0-c18bd741df31/revit-importer
Download it and use Install Extension in Extension Manager to install it.
Tried that and still did not see a selection for Revit. files. Looks like from the 2023 I need Studio to get it to work. I will keep playing with it.
Have a great day!
You should still have a SketchUp Studio subscription unless you chose to downgrade to SketchUp Pro. If you did choose to downgrade then you won’t be able to use the Revit importer.
I just ran again as Administrator. Instead of Repair I went to Choose Options. Revit was in there and it was checked. Still no Revit in drop down for import. I also saw the checkbox for Studio. It was checked and I could not uncheck it, So assume it is in there.
Did you look for the file type in File>Import? I just installed the Revit importer and Revit shows as a file type in the Import panel.
It is there in 2023, but this is what I get for 2024
It’s odd that my import options list and yours look so different.
Is the Revit importer shown as Enabled in the Extension Manager?
Which version of Windows are you using? You put “2024” in your profile but that’s not an operating system. You also selected Pro Plan as the subscription type. Is that actually correct? Or do you have a Studio Subscription?
Maybee in SketchUp 2023 you were using a different Revit importer. which you have yet to install in SketchUp 2024.
Ah, I thought that was the version of Sketchup. I am on Windows 11.
I see the Extension for Revit in 2023, but not in 2024. How do I add it to 2024? I do have the Pro plan.
Please put that into your forum profile.
The Revit importer is part of the Studio Plan, It isn’t included with the Pro Plan.
Probably the simplest thing would be to upgrade your subscription to the Studio Plan.
Look at Extension Manager in SU 2023 and find out which Revit importer extension you have.
